ROLE OF RISK CAPITAL IN STIMULATING THE STARTUP ECOSYSTEM IN UZBEKISTAN

Creation of new, sustainable businesses is important for the continued dynamism of
the private sector. Due to their high risk, innovative entrepreneurs look for equity financing (angel
investors and venture capital firms) who invest in these high risk, high growth ventures. Although
they have a low probability of succeeding, such ventures can yield levels of return significantly
higher than traditional businesses. In order to establish a successful startup ecosystem, Uzbekistan
needs to create an environment where angels and VCs are motivated to invest in startups without
having to worry about legal or organization hurdles. The paper analysis the nature of risk capital
and its importance in stimulating the startup ecosystem of Uzbekistan.
