POVERTY ALLEVIATION THROUGH MSME’S EMPOWERMENT

Abstract

This study addresses three issues on how the visualization of poverty’s portrait in
Indonesia, how the MSMEs empowerment can solve the poverty alleviation in Indonesia, and what the
The government has done in tackling poverty through empowering MSMEs. This study applies qualitative
research with a literature study approach through analysis of literature and documents related to poverty
in Indonesia, MSMEs, and the role of the Government. The results revealed that Indonesia could be
optimistic in moving forward to alleviate poverty through empowering MSMEs. The act of empowerment
is implemented and strengthened by ensuring that MSMEs get the broadest possible partiality, certainty,
opportunity, protection, and support for doing business from Government. The Government provides
support to MSMEs in the form of development, financing, guarantees, and partnerships. At present,
the Government has specifically handled the MSME sector through the Ministry of Cooperatives and
SMEs and several other related ministries. In the future, especially after COVID-19, the population
affected by layoffs does not contribute to the statistics of the poor, and the poor can get the opportunity
to improve their standard of living and welfare.
